Halloween and the start of November

Hey world! Remember me?

Sorry I've been away from my blog for awhile! I've been super busy. Uni has been A LOT of work, but I'm getting through it. Just one more midterm to get through tomorrow, then I'm done with midterm exams! Yay! Speaking of midterms, I have got some results back. For Crime and Society I got 88% and for Social Interaction I got 82.5%. So I'm very happy with those :)

I went to the Stanley Park Ghost Train with my Aussie exchange student friends, Sally and Rikki, as another Halloween celebration.

We got to carve pumpkins!! It was pretty messy, and I got pumpkin everywhere, but it was so much fun. We even got to use special pumpkin carving tools and scoopers. I was so proud I did it all by myself! His name is Jimmy the Jack-o-Lantern. Not exactly scary, but he's cute, right??

Here's a photo of us all with our pumpkins :)

Unfortunately because I kept Jimmy inside in my dorm room, he only lasted a few days. He didn't even make it til Halloween night! R.I.P. Jimmy :(

We then went on the Ghost Train! This is meant for families with little kids, so it wasn't pretty cute, but not very scary. The theme was scary fairy tales, so princesses like Ariel and Rapunzel were creepy skeletons!

All of us then got our faces painted :) Sally and I got spiderwebs, and Rikki got a Jack-o-Lantern

We caught the bus back downtown, and walked to Canada Place. We knew an Italian restaurant down there that we wanted to have dinner at. By the time we got there it was about 9pm and because Canadians eat so early, they were getting ready to close. They saw us all freezing cold, holding our pumpkins, and they were so kind to practically re-open the restaurant just so we could eat! Afterwards we caught the bus back to UBC and I had to walk back to my room carrying Jimmy, who was so heavy!

I got an email saying that I've been sent a food care package from my parents, and to pick it up from the dining hall office. My parents had ordered a Halloween care package online for me. It had a packet of gummi bears, and 12 huge Halloween cookies in it! The girls on my floor love me for sharing :)

We are all getting so sick of the cafeteria food, so that Friday night Clara and I went out to a sushi restaurant which is about a 10 minute bus ride away. The food was so good, and it was great to get off campus.

That night, Clara tickle attacked me. She knows my weakness! Abby stood there taking photos of us instead of helping me! Just look at what my new friends here do to me, hahaha. I somehow eventually ended up under my bed!

That Saturday night was Vanier's Horror Ball! I was dressed as a zombie prom queen. I bought my costume off ebay, and the gloves from a dollar store (which we fake blood stained ourselves!). My sash says 'Miss Living Dead'. I put on face paint with fake blood, and Clara teased my hair. It was so insanely teased, that people thought it was a wig! It was my real hair, people!! It had basically fallen out by the end of the night though because I didn't put in enough hairspray.

Here's a photo of some of us all dressed up:

Dad's side of the family were having a family BBQ and Mum skyped me so the whole family could see what I looked like before I left for the dance! Everyone was soo freaked out. It was funny. I was pretty much the only one on our floor to actually dress up scary for Halloween. I was having a Lindsay Lohan from 'Mean Girls' moment! If you don't understand what I'm talking about, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKuF3fV8_yc

I loved looking scary though. That's what Halloween is all about!! We went to the dance and I had so much fun just dancing around crazy with the girls.

On Halloween night I wore the same costume and teased my hair, but I didn't put any face paint on.

We then did the Vanier Halloween House Hop! Every house in Vanier had a different Halloween thing going on, so we just went around to every house, did the activities, and got HEAPS of free candy. There was murder mystery, extreme pumpkin rolling, candy toss, grossology, dig for candy, balloon battle royale, and fortune telling. I got told my fortune is that I need to be protected otherwise I'll blow away! One house also had a photobooth that we went to:

One of the houses was a haunted house, and we walked through that. I thought it would be lame but it was actually pretty impressive and a bit scary! Definitely not as scary as the Dunbar Haunted House that we went to through.

On Friday after class, a few of us went outside our house to play with the fallen leaves. We ended up burying Keira in them, haha!

The girls on my floor are pretty crazy. The other night I opened my door, and went to step out, but there was a giant pumpkin sitting in my doorway!! I have no idea where they got it from, and I was so confused. It was hilarious though.

Yesterday a few of the girls were in my room writing lots of funny post-its for my wall. It looks awesome. I hope to have it covered in post-its by the end of semester!!

Last night we went to Starbucks and Clara and I got salted caramel hot chocolates. They are amazing, and my new Starbucks addiction. I wish Australian Starbucks had them!! Because it's now November, Starbucks have brought out their red holiday cups

We spent our Saturday night being domesticated and buying groceries! Woo! We're so cool. We came back and tried the eggnog that Kendra bought. It's like thick milk, kind of like custard, with cinnamon and nutmeg in it. It was pretty good. I got to skype Mum and Nan which was fun. It made me feel homesick though! Clara and I then watched an episode of 'Teen Mom'. I love trashy TV shows.

In other news, I'm going to Whistler from the 30th of November til the 2nd of December!!! I'm so excited!!!! It's a trip put on by the Exchange Student Club and there's 55 exchange students going. Because it's such a big group of us, we're getting pretty good deals :)

I've also finished paying for my Contiki, so I've received all my travel documents for that, with a list of all the optionals. They look amazing. I want to do everything!!

My aunty Jodie sent me an Aussie care package, which is awesome. Everyone loves Tim Tams!! Thanks Jodie!

I'm also thinking about travelling to Yukon for 3 days with Rikki and Sally during the exam period to see the Northern Lights. That will be incredible, I hope it happens!!

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm having such an amazing time over here. To my SL 4th girls, I know a lot of you have been begging me since I first arrived here to extend my exchange. You have no idea how much it means to me that you love me so much already that you want me to stay longer. I just wanted to let you know that I did try to, but unfortunately I can't extend my exchange. UBC has limited places for exchange, and they want to share the experience with as many students as possible. I'm sorry! I'm disappointed too, but we can't let that get us down. We just have to accept it and still have fun together while we have the chance. So because I'm only here for one semester, let's make the most of it :) There's only 46 days left!!!

To all of my Aussie friends and family, I miss you all so much.

Love,
Emily
