Canada feels like my second home

Hi everyone!

Well not too much has happened lately. I've just been getting on with uni work and hanging out a lot with my friends. I've gotten back some more exam results. I got 79.6% in my Canadian Social Structure midterm and 76.25% in my second Social Interaction exam. I've finished all my midterm exams now which is great! I only have two more assignments to go before the end of semester. We just finished Week 11, so there's only 2 more weeks of classes before finals start! Eek!

The other week in my Canadian Social Structure class we were learning about national media events and Candian identity. We looked at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. It was so interesting and it was the first time I've ever enjoyed that class. We watched videos from the news about everyone going crazy on the streets after they won the Men's hockey. It was amazing, and it made me wish I was a Canadian!!

I've put together a pretty huge box of things to send home like clothes, some presents, and souvenoirs. It's quite heavy so I'm going to need some help carrying it to the post office this week! I miss all of you back home so much. I still get a bit homesick sometimes, but I must admit that Skype is the best invention ever. My best friend Emily sent me a package last week and it was full of pink feathers, Cadbury chocolate, Lindt chocolate, Sippah straws, Aussie flags, a photo frame, glow sticks, Aussie flag tattoos, a postcard, a letter, and Milo!! It was so random and I absolutely love it. Thanks Emily! Love you! Oh how I have missed Milo :) We had fun putting the pink feathers in my friend Abby's hair

My dorm room is becoming more and more like my home everyday. My friends have started a post-it wall in my room. It's full of random quotes and drawings and it grows everyday!

I know it's quite early but I've already decorated my door for Christmas! It is my favourite holiday afterall.

Last Friday we went to the UBC Thunderbirds vs. Thompson River men's basketball game. We got to see Clara cheerlead! It was a pretty exciting game. We won 82 - 70! Yay!

One of the referee had super shiny shoes. I thought they were hilarious so of course I took a photo haha!!

Last Saturday I went to the UBC Botanical Gardens with Marie, Clara and her friend from Dubai, Rod.

We then went downtown and shopped and went to Starbucks. We had dinner at a really nice Japanese restaurant

On Sunday I caught the seabus (kind of like a ferry) from downtown to North Vancouver and went to the Lonsdale Quay Markets with Kurtis.

This is downtown Vancouver in the distance. The weather wasn't that great!

We caught up with Clara and did some shopping. I got earmuffs! We then went to this amazing dessert restaurant called True Confections. We had a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake, oreo cheesecake, and pumpkin cheesecake. They were all amazing!!!

I did some shopping for UBC merchandise the other day for me, Dad and Luke. You can get UBC printed over absolutely everything, including pyjamas! This past Thursday I went shopping with my Aussie friend Sally downtown. It was such a great day. Desperately needed retail therapy! On the way back home we just had to stop at True Confections, so I met there twice in one week! This time I had a warm slice of chocolate pecan pie with vanilla bean icecream. It was amazing. Such a fatty haha. That night my residence put on an event called Sex With Your Advisors. It was a panel of six residence advisors who answered random anonymous questions about love, sex, and relationships. It was so funny.

I've been having so much fun with the girls on my floor. Clara and I are so crazy together. We scream the Titanic song, dance crazy around my room, and roll down the hallway laughing. The other night we had a Nutella fight. It was so much fun

Last night we went to the UBC Thunderbirds vs. Manitoba Bisons men's ice hockey game. It was such an exciting game and so dramatic. They rammed each other into the walls, got into fights, broke a hockey stick, and some pucks flew into the audience. I didn't catch one but I desperately wanted one as a souvenoir!! It would have been awesome. We went into double over time and won 2 - 1! Woo!

Today I went with Kurtis to Grouse Mountain to go ziplining. We had booked it earlier this week. Unfortunately when we got there they told us that due to the weather the ziplines were closed for the day, so we have to postpone it until next Sunday. While we were at the base of the mountain we saw the wolf habitat. They are so cute!

So instead we went to Capilano Suspension Bridge which I've been to before with Mum and Dad back in August. We then went downtown and had lunch.

Sally and I have officially booked our flights to Yukon and our accommodation in Whitehorse! We're going for a weekend during the exam period in early December. We're so excited! It's going to be unbelievably freezing cold but we're going to have so much fun dogsledding and viewing the Northern Lights!

Also, you can tell Vancouver rains a lot when you see umbrellas being sold in a vending machine!

This weekend is the Vanier Winter Formal. I can't wait to dress up really nice and wear my new heels! It's a formal dinner and it's also casino night! And yes, I do have a date haha

There is only 2 weeks left of class! It's crazy how fast this semester has done. Tomorrow is the start of Week 12!! I only have 32 days left.

I love and miss all of you so much

Love,
Emily

  1. Sounds like you are still having a ball over there. It does seem like it is going fast but 32 days is still a long time to make heaps more memories. Every time in read your blog I get jealous, you are getting to experience so much- what an opportunity. Can't wait to hear about Yukon, Whistler and the ball!
